"Intricate, detailed and pure, this stunning riesling shows white flesh nectarine, lemon sorbet, crunchy apple and white floral nuances on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that’s linear and delightfully flowing. There’s a whisper of sweetness which is perfectly balanced by bright acidity, finishing with impressive line and length" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2022
"Delicious, refreshing and enticing aromas of sweet mandarin and red apple, lots of meyer lemon and minerality with a cold stone quality. Just dry as the wine touches the palate with immediately contrasting acidity then flavours of citrus then apple and fresh white flowers. Mandarin, minerality and limeflower carry the the wine through to a lengthy yet youthful finish. Lovely aperitif if drinking today with best drinking from 2025 through 2035" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jun 2022
"Bright, even, pale yellow. This has a soft, fragrant bouquet with white floral lime flowers intertwined with lime and apple. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, aromas of lime, apple, and tangerine have a taut core, melded with a hint of citrus peel and floral element. The fruit is juicy and concentrated, shows weight, and chalky minerals fill the palate and add texture. The acidity is vibrant and focused, softened by a touch of sweetness, lends a crisp, lingering finish. This vibrant, fresh Riesling possesses ample citrus fruit entwined with floral and citrus peel bringing a long, crisp mineral finish" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Jun 2022
"This very youthful, crisp, single-vineyard wine was hand-harvested in the Waitaki Valley. Light lemon/green, it is tightly structured, with strong, vibrant, citrusy, slightly spicy flavours, gentle sweetness, and a finely poised, lingering finish" Michael Cooper, Winestate Magazine, Jul 2022
"An intensely perfumed, ripe, aromatic bouquet with notes of mandarin, grapefruit, lime marmalade and a hint of toasted coconut. Full, fleshy, oily-textured, and tasty on the palate with a luscious quality and a long piquant finish. A classic, rich, riper style, offering wide appeal" NZ Wine Rater, May 2023
This beautifully balanced Riesling is full of inviting aromas of citrus, apple blossom, melon, grapefruit peel and green apple. A sweet entry with lime zest, melon and a touch of pink grapefruit. Beautifully balanced, it has a rich front palate that crescendos to a complex, long and mineral finish and the distinctive acidity ensures great potential for aging. Enjoyable at release, this wine will continue to evolve for 8+ years.
The Waitaki Valley in North Otago is renowned for its limestone rich soils which give great minerality and focus to the wines. The maritime climate makes the North Otago region different to the more highly planted semi- continental Central Otago region and the unique limestone rich soils result in wines with crunchy natural acidity and distinctive minerality.
The 2020-2021 growing season was a season of everything. It started off with drought from Winter, going into the spring there was some frost to fight. Then an excessive amount of norwesterly wind, and rain over the New Year. There was a cooler than usual January followed by good Autumn weather which has resulted in high quality Riesling fruit.
The pristine Riesling grapes were hand harvested from a single vineyard near Lake Waitaki at optimal ripeness on 12 April 2021. The grapes were whole bunch pressed to a stainless steel tank for cold settling for two days. The juice was then racked and the juice inoculated with selected wine yeast and fermented at cool temperatures to retain the fresh aromatics. The fermentation was stopped at the perfect balance of residual sugar and acidity resulting in a just slightly off-dry wine with a long dry, crisp, and mineral finish.
